Rain is beautiful, but it can be harsh too. It is not enough to sit back and enjoy the rain; there are certain things which should be taken care of. Find how the rain can affect the house and what can be done to avoid the bad.
Get the roof ready-
- Inspect the roof regularly after every 6 months to avoid serious problems that can disturb the budget.
- Repair cracks along the ridge of the roof.
- Inspect the area of the roof with a downward slope. Make sure that the sheet metal flashing does not have any holes or rusty spots.
Take a look at the drainage spots-
- Inspect to make sure that water can drain smoothly. If there are granules in the rill then it’s a sign that the roof’s coating needs to be resealed.
- Repair if there is any down pipe clogs.
Work out for ceiling– Check inside the home for ceilings or any other possibility of leakage. Repair ASAP if any.
Check out the doors and windows. Inspect each of them for proper seal and lock, repair immediately if needed to avoid more harm.
Destroy the dead branches around the house. Don’t ignore them to avoid the damage caused by them, if they break down during rain.
Basement needs extra care- If you have a basement or living at ground floor then you need to take extra care during rainy season. Regularly check the drainage system and pipes to stay away from clogs near the basement.
Try to use sandbags- Place them to the lower areas of the house to avoid water to get in, in case of heavy rain.
