Diwali, the festival of lights is meant to brighten up our homes and spirits. With this zest, we bring for you some quick tips to brighten up your home without the need of long changes.

Curtains: Curtains end up taking a whole wall in our living rooms and they tend to add colour to it. While we do usually opt of dark colours and thicker fabrics to block out the light most times, for festivities opt for transparent and flowy fabrics to bring in some light and air. Fabrics like Organza and Tissue work well as they have a natural sheen in them. Opt for bright colours and add a hint of gold to go with the festivities.

Cushions: Cushions are an effortless way to add colour to any room. Just throw some small cushions around the couch or the low sitting with no particular colour or design. The whole idea is to add variety, so mix and match fabrics and colours. Preferable choice of fabric can be brocade for its ethnic and festive feel.

Wallpaper: Rather than getting a paint job for the whole house, a quicker way to add the feeling of new is using wallpapers. Choose a wall that is the focus of the room and paper it. It’s also both cost and time effective. Choose colours that go with the setting of your room and prints that have an Indian vibe.

Lamps: With the festival representing lights, how can we forget them. Experiment with different lampshades and also where you place them. While a floor lamp adds dimension to the room, designer table/roof lamps brighten up the aura in multiple hues.

Accessories: Using accessories with an ethnic feel is a nice way to add festive zing. Mirrors, diyas, wall hangings, artifacts, anything with an antique or ethnic feel would do the thing.

Use warm colours and lights wherever in doubt.

We wish you a very Happy and a Prosperous Diwali.
