A home is the most beautiful possession you may have. But it, too, asks for maintenance from time to time. Proper maintenance of the house you’re living in is important to live a healthy and worry free life.
Rajasthan is a land of extremes. It experiences the severity of all seasons. There are some things, which you have to keep in mind so that you can properly maintain your home.
SUMMER
Summer is just perfect if you wish to have plants in the balcony and other open areas. At the same time, certain parts of your home will need attention in this season, namely:
- Check plumbing for leaks. Go around to all your faucets and toilets and check for any small leak.
- Analyse grout in bathrooms, kitchen, etc.; repair as needed.This will increase the life of your tiled surfaces and make them look better.
- Open showerheads and clean sediment. This enhances its life and helps with water pressure too.
- Relieve your home from any insect problems you may have.Summer is their favourite season. Ants, spiders, moths, etc. are all common in summer, but easy to get rid of. You just need to clear cobwebs and have pesticides handy.
MONSOON
Heavy rain and moisture can dampen the house’s interiors and make it vulnerable to damage. Homes really need extra care in this season.
- Protect wooden cupboards, desk drawers, etc. Keep camphor in your cupboards; it absorbs the moisture and protects your clothes. Neem leaves are also effective against silver fish, as they prevent their development.
- Keep your house well-ventilated. Make sure there is enough cross-ventilation so that there is constant inflow of fresh air in the house. This will prevent the damp smell to prevail inside the house and moisture to saturate the air.
AUTUMN
Autumn is an in-between season. There you’re finishing up your summer home maintenance tasks and getting ready for winter.
- Empty the geyser and remove sediment.This prolongs its life and helps with efficiency as well.
- Don’t forget to clean the chimney.You can do it in spring or autumn. What’s important is that you can clean it once a year.
WINTER
Winter is the season to play with the interiors of your home and check for any pending work.
- Test every electricity connection.Always be extra careful while working with electricity.
- Check every screw and tighten if needed.Go through the house and inspect handles, knobs, racks, etc. that could have a loose screw.
- Replace the things that are not working properly. Check all locks and deadbolts on your doors and windows.
- Deep clean and observe the store-room.It is always overlooked. Storeroom needs your good inspection at least once a year.
